The old Jewish quarter of Seville includes the areas of Santa Cruz and San Bartolomé. In this historic neighbourhood which reached its peak in the Middle Ages, it was common for kings to surround themselves with Sephardim, the name given to the Jews of Spain and Portugal. The Aljama of Seville became one of the most important in Spain, the cradle of great astrologers, doctors and philosophers…
They were the great intellectual and commercial elite of their time, until 1492 when the Catholic Monarchs officially expelled the Jews from the kingdoms of Spain.
During our experience, you will be able to travel back in time to recover the history of a forgotten people, the people of Sepharad. Strolling through the streets that once were the Jewish quarter of Seville and today one of the most emblematic neighbourhoods in the city, Santa Cruz; which still hides parts of its history from the view of people in the street.
Some of the places we will visit are: Doña Elvira Square, Callejón del Agua, Santa Cruz Square, Refiners Square, the old Jewish cemetery and Santa María la Blanca Street.
Get to know all the secrets of our Sephardic past and how many of its traditions and customs are still very present in our culture. Will you join us on our journey to the past?
